Bengal Tiger by Nathalie Heseltine

The artwork used on these cards was created to cast light on a variety of endangered species from around the world. Made from collages of magazine clippings, the originals of these vibrant and beautiful pieces have been exhibited in London.

The Bengal Tiger

STATUS: Endangered

Today these tigers survive in scattered and fragmented populations in 13 countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam. They are one of the largest of the big cats and the only cat with stripes. Much like a human fingerprint, no two tigers have the
same stripe pattern.

In the past 100 years, the Bengal Tiger has lost more than 93% of its historic range. Poaching and illegal killing remain it’s biggest threats, due to the growing demand for tiger bones in Oriental ‘medicine’.

CONSERVATION: Conservation groups are working to educate communities, decrease demand for tiger products, prevent poaching and focus on the most successful habitats where tigers can mate and have a greater chance to increase in number.

About the artist

From her days of looking after hundreds of stick insects to her incredible artwork that highlights the plight of some of our most wonderful creatures, London based Nathalie Heseltine has always had a love for animals. When she's not creating her masterpieces, you can find her either studying marine conservation or travelling to some far flung country to save marine life.
