Rainbow Parrotfish Card
Rainbow Parrotfish by Nathalie Heseltine
The artwork used on these cards was created to cast light on a variety of endangered species from around the world. Made from collages of magazine clippings, the originals of these vibrant and beautiful pieces have been exhibited in London.
The Rainbow Parrotfish
STATUS: Near threatened
Found in mangroves amidst coral reefs, these colourful fish are endemic to the western Atlantic from Florida, Bermuda and the Bahamas to Argentina. They play an integral role in the reef by using their parrot-like beak to scrape algae and dead coral, spending up to 90% of their day nibbling. An unusual feature is that they are able to change sex, with many changing from female to male as they age.
In areas where adult coral reef habitat is connected to mangrove nursery habitat, widespread removal of the mangroves has resulted in local extinction of the Rainbow Parrotfish. Further threats facing their reef ecosystems include pollution, global warming, over-fishing and coastal development.
CONSERVATION: A number of reef reserves have been established in which fishing and other human pressures are prevented.

Sumatran Orangutan Card
Sumatran Orangutan by Nathalie Heseltine
The artwork used on these cards was created to cast light on a variety of endangered species from around the world. Made from collages of magazine clippings, the originals of these vibrant and beautiful pieces have been exhibited in London.
The Sumatran Orangutan
STATUS: Critically endangered
Found only in the Indonesian archipelago, the name orangutan translates as "person of the forest" in the Malay language. These highly intelligent great apes, known for their distinctive red fur, are the largest tree-dwelling mammals in the world.
With only 7,500 Sumatran believed to be left, and being the slowest breeding of all the mammal species, these orangutans are critically endangered. In the last 20 years, 80% of their habitat has been lost to illegal logging, gold mining and agriculture - in particular to oil palm plantations. Their large size and slow movements also makes them easy targets for hunters.
CONSERVATION: Conservationists are working to reduce conflict between people and orangutans, by devising practical solutions to prevent orangutans from raiding crops.

Lemur Leaf Frog Card
Lemur Leaf Frog by Nathalie Heseltine
The artwork used on these cards was created to cast light on a variety of endangered species from around the world. Made from collages of magazine clippings, the originals of these vibrant and beautiful pieces have been exhibited in London.
The Lemur Leaf Frog
STATUS: Critically endangered
With bulging eyes and slender frames, Lemur Leaf Frogs have a very fragile appearance. While they may be small, they are very clever creatures. At night, when they're most active, they have the remarkable ability to change colour - from greenish-yellow to a reddish-brown.
Found in Costa Rica, Panama and northern Colombia, the Lemur Leaf Frog is critically endangered. Their numbers are on the decline, with their population falling by half over the last 15 years, mainly because of habitat loss and disease.
CONSERVATION: Some of the populations of Lemur Leaf Frogs now dwell in protected areas, and a number of zoos are taking part in captive breeding programmes in an effort to conserve these frogs.

Ruffed Lemur Card
Black and White Ruffed Lemur by Nathalie Heseltine
The artwork used on these cards was created to cast light on a variety of endangered species from around the world. Made from collages of magazine clippings, the originals of these vibrant and beautiful pieces have been exhibited in London.
The Black and White Ruffed Lemur
STATUS: Critically endangered
Found in rainforests in Madagascar. the striking Black and White Ruffed Lemur is amongst the most iconic of the lemur species, with its name coming from the large white furry 'ruff' around its neck. They are incredibly loud, only being the second loudest primate after the famous howler monkey.
Due to their large size and daylight activity patterns, these lemurs are one of the most heavily hunted lemur species in the Madagascar. They are also the first species to disappear when human activities like logging and agriculture encroach upon their rainforest habitat.
CONSERVATION: Captive breeding efforts are having limited success, as animals that have not grown up in the wild struggle to adapt.

Iberian Lynx Card
Iberian Lynx by Nathalie Heseltine
The artwork used on these cards was created to cast light on a variety of endangered species from around the world. Made from collages of magazine clippings, the originals of these vibrant and beautiful pieces have been exhibited in London.
The Iberian Lynx
STATUS: Critically endangered
The remaining populations of the Iberian Lynx survive in Spain and Portugal. Mainly a solitary animal, these lynx are nocturnal and like to hunt alone. It is believed that if the Iberian Lynx died out, it would be the first feline species to become extinct since prehistoric times.
They are the worlds most threatened species of cat, with its prey (rabbit) being decimated by two diseases in the 20th century. It has been further affected by the loss of scrubland, its main habitat, to human development.
CONSERVATION: Captive breeding and reintroduction programs have boosted their numbers. As of 2013, Andalucía has a population of 309 lynx living in the wild.

Bengal Tiger Card
Bengal Tiger by Nathalie Heseltine
The artwork used on these cards was created to cast light on a variety of endangered species from around the world. Made from collages of magazine clippings, the originals of these vibrant and beautiful pieces have been exhibited in London.
The Bengal Tiger
STATUS: Endangered
Today these tigers survive in scattered and fragmented populations in 13 countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam. They are one of the largest of the big cats and the only cat with stripes. Much like a human fingerprint, no two tigers have the
same stripe pattern.
In the past 100 years, the Bengal Tiger has lost more than 93% of its historic range. Poaching and illegal killing remain it’s biggest threats, due to the growing demand for tiger bones in Oriental ‘medicine’.
CONSERVATION: Conservation groups are working to educate communities, decrease demand for tiger products, prevent poaching and focus on the most successful habitats where tigers can mate and have a greater chance to increase in number.
